A MAN who stole a charity hamper from a Worcester pub has been jailed.
John Smith, 41 and of no fixed abode in Droitwich, had attacked staff at the Old Greyhound on New Street as they tried to remove him from the pub.
He then snatched hamper that had been part of a fundraising day for Claire House Children’s Hospice.
Smith appeared at Worcester Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday, September 15, where he pleaded guilty to theft, common assault against pub manager Paula Burton, assault by beating, and two counts of failing to comply with a community protection notice.

He was sentenced to 18 weeks in prison for assault by beating.
An eight-week prison sentence for the theft and a two-week sentence for common assault were also handed down.
All three sentences will run concurrently.
A jail term was deemed necessary due to the “unprovoked attack of a serious nature”.
He was also ordered to pay a total of £125 in costs to both assault victims.
