Worcester bakery set to close amid rising costs

A beloved Warndon bakery has announced it will close its doors for good.

Ma Baker’s, on Cranham Parade, will serve its final customers on Friday, October 9, after several years in business.

The closure marks the end of what owners described as a “rollercoaster” journey filled with hard work, community spirit, and memorable moments.

In a heartfelt statement, a spokesperson for Ma Baker’s said: “We’ve realised it’s probably time we address all the rumours.

“This isn’t a decision we’ve made lightly and, to be quite honest, has probably been one of the hardest ones we’ve ever had to make, but after lots of stress, sleepless nights, tears and endless amounts of doubt on whether we’re doing the right thing or not, we have come to the extremely difficult decision that with rising costs and many other factors all adding up, as of Friday the 9th of October we will be shutting the door for the last time and calling time on Ma Baker’s.”

The owners reflected on their journey since taking over the bakery more than four years ago, describing it as full of both challenges and rewards.

The spokesperson said: “Just over 4 years ago we embarked on this crazy journey, and from start to finish we have laughed, cried and learnt endless lessons and met some incredible people along the way.

“To say it’s been a rollercoaster would be an understatement. From start to finish, nothing about being the owners of Ma Baker’s has been easy; our family and friends will vouch for us on that.”

They also took time to thank their team and customers, crediting their support as the reason they made it as far as they did.

The spokesperson said: “The biggest part for us that has made this whole time so enjoyable has been being able to work alongside some of the best people you’ll meet, whose help at times has been the reason we’ve got this far.

“So to those people, you know who you are, thank you again for everything you’ve done. Without you all, I don’t know how we’d have gotten through some of the longest and hardest days; we appreciate you all endlessly.”

They also expressed gratitude to their customers, both regulars and occasional visitors.

The spokesperson said: “Lastly, our customers, both the ones who only know us by name and an email address to the ones who have shown up from the start and become our regulars in both wholesale and the shop front, thank you; your custom and support has never gone unnoticed.

“However, the hardest part of all this is the realisation that our Ma Baker’s family made of customers that along the way have become some of the best friends people could wish for isn’t quite going to be the same again.”
