AN independent supermarket is celebrating after being named best in the country.
Warner’s Supermarket, based in Upton-upon-Severn, won the Independent Retailer of the Year title at the Retail Industry Awards 2026.
The award recognises the store’s commitment to customers, community engagement, and innovation.

Guy Warner, CEO of Warner’s Supermarket, said: “We are absolutely delighted to receive this award.
“It is a testament to the hard work, passion and dedication of our entire team, who strive every day to provide the best possible experience for our customers.
“Since opening in Upton upon Severn, we have worked hard to create a supermarket that genuinely reflects the needs of the local community.”
Judges praised the store’s value proposition, creative marketing, customer loyalty programme, community support, and focus on local suppliers.
The award was collected by store manager Jack Cross, marketing manager Becky Willis, and assistant store manager Molly Apps.
Mr Warner said: “Upton is a vibrant, welcoming town with a fantastic community spirit, and we feel incredibly fortunate to be part of it.
“Whether that’s supporting local charities, showcasing regional producers, hosting community events, or simply delivering great value and service, our customers are at the heart of everything we do.”
Warner’s Supermarket opened in 2022 and has since become a key part of the community, supporting residents, businesses, and organisations through various initiatives.
One popular scheme is Food Truck Fridays, which gives local street food vendors a platform to sell their food.
The store’s Community Savings Scheme has raised more than £75,000 for charities, schools, sports clubs, and community groups.
Warner’s said it is also passionate about supporting local suppliers and producers.
The store stocks a food and drink sourced from across the region, giving customers access to high-quality local product.
The award was presented at a ceremony held at the Hilton London Bankside on Tuesday, September 22, and hosted by comedian Mark Watson.
