City council praised for paying small businesses on time

THE city council has been praised for paying the majority of its local suppliers on time.

Worcester City Council aims to pay all of its invoices within 30 days and has a target to pay 90 percent of local suppliers within 10 days.

In the first quarter of the 2026/27 financial year, the council paid 95.4 percent of its invoices on time and paid 85.1 percent of local suppliers within 10 days.

At a policy and resources committee meeting this week, Councillor Hannah Cooper said: “So many small businesses suffer from late payments.

“I’m delighted we are paying small businesses on time.”
