Campaigners celebrate as new pedestrian crossing is finally installed

A new pedestrian refuge has been installed near Perdiswell Park to improve road safety after years of community campaigning.

The crossing, on Bilford Road where it crosses over the canal, was funded by Green County Council leader Matt Jenkins through his highways allocation.

Mr Jenkins said: “I used my highways fund to pay for this pedestrian refuge.

“It is something that I have been calling for for years.

“Many residents had raised the need for a safer crossing at this location.

“It was great to see people using it, and will help pedestrians to safely navigate this often busy road.”

The new refuge has good visibility in both directions, and provides sufficient space for people with bikes, pushchairs and mobility scooters.

It is also expected to help slow traffic in the area.

Mr Jenkins said he was pleased to see the scheme finally delivered after long-term lobbying and resident support.
