Extra volunteers wanted for Worcester City Runs

More volunteers are needed to help deliver one of the region’s most popular running events.

Organisers of the 2026 Sutcliffe & Co Worcester City Runs, scheduled for September 12 and 13, are calling on residents to support the growing festival, which expects to attract more than 5,000 runners.

The event features the Worcester City 10K and Half Marathon, Young Athletes Runs, and Paula Radcliffe’s Families on Track.

Steve Cram, founder of Worcester City Runs, said: “Every year, the atmosphere at the Sutcliffe & Co Worcester City Runs is brilliant, and that’s in no small part due to the energy and enthusiasm of our brilliant volunteers, without whom we couldn’t stage the races.

“While it’s been amazing to see the event grow, that does mean that we need a little extra help, so we’re asking for more local people and community organisations to get involved.

“A lot of our volunteers come back to help year after year, because they love being part of this festival of running.

“They include adults who first volunteered when they were kids, and I am sure that many of those who come forward this year will enjoy the experience so much that they also make a habit of it.”

Established in 2014 and organised by Events of the North, the event is run in partnership with Worcester City Council and Worcestershire County Council, and sponsored by local insurance broker Sutcliffe & Co.

Volunteers are needed for roles including course marshals, radio marshals, and medal distribution.

Many return year after year, with some going on to volunteer at national and international sporting events.

Regular volunteer Helen Sherratt said: “I always say that I get so much more out of volunteering than I give.

“As well as being lucky to work on all these events, it has given me the opportunity to do something completely different from my day job, along with the chance to have new experiences and meet many lovely people, a large number who are now close friends.”

All volunteers will receive snacks and refreshments on the day, plus a complimentary entry to a future Events of the North running event within the next 12 months.
