Top five wrong items put in green bins in Worcester

Worcester City Council has shared the top five wrong items found in the city’s green bins in May 2026.

Posting on Facebook, the city council and Sustainable Worcester said: “Our recycling processing centre in Norton is still seeing the same common mistakes in Worcester City’s green bins — and we need your help to put things right!”

The number one most common error is throwing in plastic film, including cling film and plastic film lids on food packaging though this also applies to plastic bags.

The second-worst offender is tissues and wipes, including “biodegradable” ones and kitchen roll.

Third was polystyrene, fourth clothing and textiles, including shoes and other fabrics, and number five was food waste and nappies which the council said should go in your black bin or compost.
