Hidden horticultural gems to open their gates for charity

Three unique gardens are set to open to the public to raise money for charity.

The private gardens, not otherwise open to view, will be opening their gates to visitors as part of the Worcestershire National Garden Scheme (NGS).

A surprise awaits visitors to 68 Windsor Avenue, St Johns, Worcester, WR2 5NB.

Not many semi-detached houses can boast an acre of garden containing a wild flower meadow, five greenhouses and GIANT Echiums.

It will be open on Sunday, July 5, 2026, from 12pm to 4pm, with an entrance fee of £5. Visitors can also purchase homemade refreshments and a variety of plants.

‘Suburban magic’ can be found at the second garden, at 5 Beckett Drive, Worcester.

Featured on BBC Gardeners’ World, this garden has been opening for the NGS for over 20 years.

It will open on Saturday, July 4, and Sunday, July 5, from 1pm to 5pm. The entrance fee is £5, and homemade ice cream and teas will be available.

The third garden, Spetchley Park, Worcester, has been part of the National Garden Scheme since 1947.

This historic 30-acre garden has been in the Berkely family since 1605.

It will open on Sunday, July 5, from 10.30am to 5pm.

Admission is £11 for adults and £7 for children. Visitors can enjoy a coffee shop with a variety of options and even buy a picnic.

All proceeds from the admission fees will go to the caring charities through the NGS.
