Roadworks causes 12 days of disruption on busy Worcester route

Motorists can expect disruption on one of Worcester’s busiest routes as roadworks take place on Whittington Road for almost two weeks.

Cadent Gas has announced gas works and a lane closure will be in place on Whittington Road from November 2 until November 13, which is expected to affect traffic during the 12-day period.

The work forms part of a programme to replace ageing gas pipes with new plastic mains designed to support the future use of greener gases and improve the reliability of the network.

Cadent said it is responsible for maintaining the gas pipeline network and ensuring supplies remain safe and reliable for homes and businesses.

A spokesperson said: “We’re replacing the old pipes with new plastic ones which will mean that you’ll be ready for greener gas in the future.”

The company has warned that some customers may experience temporary interruptions to their gas supply while the work is carried out.

Engineers may also need access to properties in certain cases, with on-site teams providing further information to affected residents.

The works are expected to lead to delays for drivers using Whittington Road, particularly during busier periods, as traffic passes through the lane restriction.

Residents and commuters are being urged to allow extra time for journeys while the project is completed.

Cadent said the upgrades are necessary to ensure the network remains safe, warm and connected for customers while preparing the gas infrastructure for future energy needs.

The roadworks are scheduled to remain in place until 11.59pm on November 13.
