Legendary musicians at Worcestershire pub – but ‘gutted’ landlord missed it

MUSIC legends and friends stood shoulder to shoulder at the bar ahead of a gig in a Worcestershire town – and the landlord said he was gutted to have missed them.

There was a lot of musical talent packed into one pub when Robert Plant and Dave Pegg shared a drink together at the bar of the Bridge Inn in Tenbury Wells pub before a Fairport Convention concert on Sunday.

Plant, the former Led Zeppelin singer, 78, and Pegg, the Fairport bassist, 79, visited The Bridge ahead of the concert at the Regal which took place between 7.20pm and 9.30pm.

Fairport Convention has been entertaining music lovers for half a century, marking their 59th anniversary this year.

Pegg is also known for his long association with Jethro Tull and the Ian Campbell Folk Group. Plant and Pegg are old friends, according to information shared about the visit.

Pub landlord Bob Webb said unfortunately he was away when the two men visited, meeting his sisters about a family matter, but that the town was no stranger to big musical names.

Mr Webb said: “Gutted! As I understand Dave was playing at our local theatre the Regal in Teme Street and they are old friends and Robert came along to watch, I might be incorrect but that’s what other Regal goers have said.

“If it makes a difference the Beatles also played herein the sixties so all we need now is Keith Richards for a full house.”
