Village pub excited to start serving pints again after sudden closure

A VILLAGE pub has welcomed the community back once again after suddenly closing earlier this month.

The Crown Inn in Peopleton, which has been closed for the last two weeks, is now reopen (April 22) following ‘a complete refresh’ with help from nearby residents.

Brightening up the pub, The Crown Inn has undergone some TLC, including a new back bar, a new darts room, and more.

Some villagers also volunteered to help refresh the beer garden, including cutting the lawn, sanding down, and repainting the benches during the two-week closure.

Josh Matheson, landlord of The Crown Inn in Peopleton, said: “The pub is reopening today (April 22) following a complete refresh.

“The main changes are a complete redecoration, new furniture, a brand new back bar, the garden has been refreshed with help from the local community, benches have been sanded and painted, the lawn has been done, there are some new bits and bobs in the toilets, new beer lines, a couple of new products, and more.

“We were scheduled to reopen yesterday (April 21), but that was delayed due to a couple of late deliveries.

“I’m super excited and can’t wait to get back to serving the lovely community again.”

The Crown Inn had been closed since April 7.

Emma Cotterill, manager of The Crown Inn in Peopleton, said: “We took over the pub at the beginning of March.

“We’ve been closed for the last two weeks and have reopened today (April 22).

“We’ve got a new back bar, new furniture, a new darts room, and everything has been brightened up.

“We’re excited.

“It’s a lot better, it’s had a bit of TLC, it needed a bit of TLC.

“The reaction has been very positive so far.

“Everyone is really friendly and very welcoming. It’s a nice little pub in a nice little village.”

In January, Mr Matheson left The Red Lion pub on St Ann’s Road in Malvern after 18 months. The 31-year-old also manages The Ye Olde Red Horse in Evesham.

Jamie Price said: “It’s great that this village pub is still going.

“It’s just a nice place to be on a sunny day.

“The inside was a little outdated, so that’s been worked on.

“But other than that, it is pretty much the same as before.

“Hopefully, it will continue to thrive.”
