One of the biggest military shows in the UK to return to Evesham this week

Explosive tank battles, pyrotechnic displays and two Battle of Britain Memorial Flights are set to take centre stage this month.

Wartime in the Vale will return for the 19th time to the Ashdown Camp between Evesham and Badsey, running from Friday, June 19 to Sunday, June 21.

Billed as one of the largest military re-enactment events in the country, the show will feature more than 500 military vehicles, living history displays, and entertainment for the whole family.

Amy Jelfs, one of the event organisers, said: “It’s the 85th anniversary of the Diamond T this year.

“There will be tank battles with pyrotechnic explosions.

“The Battle of Britain Memorial Flight will be flying over on both days.

“It’s really special because we are one of the only places that actually get current serving military vehicles.”

The public show will take place from 10am to 5pm on Saturday and Sunday.

Visitors have been advised to dress sensibly for the outdoors.

Ms Jelfs said: “This is our 19th year. Next year is the big one if we get there.

“I like explosions, I’m a bit of a pyromaniac.

“It’s nice to see so many different vehicles from different eras.

“I’m nervous like every year.

“The British weather can change at the drop of a hat but it is in a field at the end of the day.

“If it looks wet, wear trainers, not flip flops.”

Highlights include a CRARRV recovery vehicle courtesy of the Ministry of Defence, the ATF motorcycle display team, numerous arena events and tank battles, a model tent, a dedicated WW2 museum, and more.

Re-enactments will feature tanks in action, and live entertainment will include dance classes, classic cars, and trade stands.

For younger visitors, there will also be a small children’s fair.
