A man who raised thousands for charity died after “expressing suicidal intention”, an inquest heard.
An inquest into the death of Steven Eric Duffield was held at Worcestershire Coroner’s Court on Tuesday (October 27).
HM Assistant Coroner Deborah Lakin told an inquest that Mr Duffield, aged 46, died on January 3 in Kidderminster after having “expressed suicidal intent on several occasions.”
In a narrative verdict, the coroner said she was satisfied Mr Duffield had deliberately harmed himself but, due to the amount of alcohol he had consumed at some point prior to his death, she was unable to say whether he intentionally took his own life.
Mr Duffield became well known in the Kidderminster community for his incredible fundraising efforts in support of Acorns Children’s Hospice.
He raised thousands of pounds in support of the charity after taking on a 1,880-mile hike.
Mr Duffield lost 17 stone ahead of his fundraising challenge after committing to improving his health and developing a love for walking.
