Here’s how you can support a Worcester hospice by climbing a mountain

Trekking enthusiasts are being invited to climb Mount Toubkal in Morocco in support of hospice care in Worcester.

St Richard’s Hospice is organising the fundraising challenge to summit North Africa’s highest peak, which stands at 4,167 metres, to help raise vital funds for its services.

Climbers will experience rugged terrain, sweeping valleys, and panoramic views, all while supporting a Worcestershire charity.

A free online information evening about the challenge will be held on Monday, July 27, at 7pm.

This will help those who are interested in learning more and/or taking part to know what they will be in for and how they will be helping the hospice.

Ann-Marie Dodson, who completed the hospice’s Sahara trek in 2023 and has signed up for the Mount Toubkal challenge, described her motivation for taking part.

Ms Dodson said: “I had never been to the hospice myself, but my children’s house master had died there some months before.

“What better way to honour his memory than have an adventure and do something useful, as the hospice relies on the public’s fundraising to keep running.

“The Sahara trek was a challenge at times as it was hot, and the dunes and sand made for tough walking at times, but that’s the achievement.

“We had the best trek leader that I have ever met and I’ve trekked the world.

“We all felt very safe and well looked after.

“I’m still in contact with her and our guides.”

Speaking on the forthcoming challenge, Ms Dodson said: “I know it will be amazing and a real achievement to summit the highest peak in North Africa.

“All for a good cause whilst getting fit and having fun.”

Funds raised by trekkers will help the hospice continue offering free, expert care for adults with an illness that can’t be cured, and support for their loved ones and carers.

There are flexible fundraising options and the hospice will provide guidance throughout the fundraising journey.
