Blast from the past exhibition celebrates classic 60s TV shows

Lady Penelope and Joe 90 are among the cherished characters visitors can meet again as part of a blast from the past summer exhibition.

The exhibition FAB! will be displayed at Worcester City Art Gallery and Museum from July 4 to September 6.

It pays homage to the iconic television works of the 1960s masterminds Gerry and Sylvia Anderson.

The exhibition will feature meticulously restored original puppets from shows such as Thunderbirds, Captain Scarlet, and Joe 90.

Newly built functional replicas of several characters, including the popular Thunderbirds pilots, have been created from original moulds and materials, providing fans with a unique glimpse into the past.

Offering more than just the puppets, the exhibition will also feature original comic and production design art, which promises to transport visitors back in time.

A vast collection of 1960s memorabilia and toys further add to the nostalgic journey.

And there’s a treat for fans of iconic vehicles with models of Fireball XL5, Stingray, and the Thunderbirds craft on display.

Adding to the fun, the Worcester Aquanaut Severn Patrol action station offers families a hands-on experience where they can create their own puppet show and dress up as their favourite TV characters.

The exhibition will also feature a series of spotlight talks by Graham Bleathman, a renowned illustrator, and Marc Silk, the voice of various characters in Thunderbirds Are Go!.

After-hours events are also set to return with the FAB! theme.

Deborah Fox, Museums Worcestershire senior curator, said: “We pride ourselves in providing top, family fun for the summer holidays and this year is a true classic where visitors can relive their childhood through Thunderbirds and friends, and share their memories with their families.

“We might even inspire some new fans!”

The exhibition has been made possible with the support of Fanderson – the official Gerry and Sylvia Anderson Appreciation Society.
