A beauty salon will stay open for 24 hours as nail technicians take on a marathon fundraiser for two charities.
All About Me Beauty Salon in Sidbury, Worcester, will host its Nailing It For 24 fundraiser from 11am on Saturday, October 3 until 11am on Sunday, October 4 to raise money for Breakthrough T1D and Dementia UK.
The idea came from beauty therapist Molly, who lives with type 1 diabetes and wanted to raise awareness and funds for T1D.
Amy Evans, salon owner, said: “The charities are really personal to us.
“Molly has type 1 diabetes, as do some of our friends and clients, and my family is experiencing first-hand what dementia is like as my dad’s condition progresses.
“So, there was a real reason behind choosing both of them.
“This was all Molly’s idea. She came to us with this plan to do nails non-stop for 24 hours for charity and somehow, we all said yes.
“I’m not sure any of us had really thought through what 4am was going to feel like at that point.”
Two nail technicians will work at all times during the event, with a total of 48 one-hour gel nail appointments available throughout the 24 hours.
Each appointment costs £35, or £40 including gel removal, with all proceeds donated to the charities.
The salon is inviting qualified nail technicians from the area to volunteer a couple of hours to help keep the fundraiser going.
Ms Evans said: “We’d really love other local nail techs to get involved. We’re not asking anyone to stay awake for 24 hours with us! If they can give us a couple of hours and take a shift, we’d love to have them.
“And we need people to take the crazy appointments too. Who gets their nails done at 3am! Grab a friend, bring us coffee and come and be part of it.”
A charity raffle will also take place, with prizes donated by local businesses.
