Aldi has announced a multi-million-pound investment in renewable energy.
The supermarket chain will spend £17.5 million installing solar panels at 230 additional UK stores between 2027 and 2031.
This latest commitment will enable Aldi to generate more of its own renewable electricity, with each installation providing up to 30 per cent of a store’s annual energy needs.
Jonathan Neale, managing director of national real estate at Aldi UK, said: “We have plenty of space on our store roofs, so it makes sense to use it.
“We want solar power to become a normal part of how we run our stores, and this investment will help us bring it to even more locations over the coming years.
“By generating more of our own electricity, we can reduce our reliance on the grid and make our stores more sustainable.”
The new scheme expands on Aldi’s existing £8.4 million programme to fit solar panels on 100 additional stores during 2025 and 2026.
By the end of 2026, more than 500 Aldi stores are expected to have solar panels installed.
Mr Neale said: “By generating more of our own electricity, we can reduce our reliance on the grid and make our stores more sustainable.”
The solar panel programme is part of Aldi’s wider investment in UK stores.
Earlier this year, the retailer announced plans to invest more than £300 million in upgrading and extending existing stores in 2026.
