PureGym is planning to open around 60 new sites worldwide in 2026.
The Leeds-headquartered fitness chain, which has a gym in Worcester, says it also aims to accelerate its global expansion over the second half of 2026, with long-term ambitions for more than 750 additional locations worldwide.
Of the 17 new gyms opened over the first half, 15 were in the UK.
The company currently operates 728 sites, including 467 in the UK, 128 in Denmark, 49 in Switzerland, and 61 in the US, as well as having a franchise agreement in Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates.

PureGym on track to open 60 more sites worldwide in 2026
Alex Wood, chief executive of PureGym, said: “The long-term fundamentals of our sector remain extremely attractive.
“Consumers are placing ever greater importance on their health and wellbeing, while the increasing availability of convenient and affordable gyms is bringing more people into fitness.”
The group is also expanding its dedicated women’s workout areas, which are now available in 73 UK gyms.
An additional 20 spaces were introduced in the six months to the end of June.
These facilities have been rolled out over the past couple of years, with expansion accelerating due to what the company describes as a “positive reception to these dedicated training spaces designed to boost female members’ comfort and confidence.”
PureGym reported a 23 per cent rise in underlying earnings to £123.6 million for the six months to June 30.
Revenue grew by six per cent to £393 million.
Membership numbers also increased by three per cent year on year, reaching 2.44 million.
However, the company remains loss-making on a statutory basis, recording a reduced loss of £20.7 million, down from £47.9 million a year earlier.
Mr Wood said: “Looking ahead, we remain on track to open approximately 60 high-quality new gyms across the group in 2026.
“Beyond 2026, we see substantial whitespace across our existing markets and the Republic of Ireland, and believe there are more than 750 high-quality sites we can open over the coming years.”
