A BROAD Street business owner has closed his shop for good after 15 months in Worcester.
50 Scents on Broad Street officially closed yesterday (July 25) after ‘a rollercoaster of a journey’.
The business had been closed for a renovation; however, 50 Scents will not reopen ‘after things did not go as planned’.
Owner of 50 Scents, Wayne Jarvis, had become a popular character on social media, speaking out regularly about shoplifting in the city, often naming and shaming the alleged thieves.
In a final goodbye message, Mr Jarvis urged visitors to use independent shops, adding ‘Worcester often gets a bad rap, but it is truly a lovely city filled with passionate independent businesses’.

Mr Jarvis posted: “Today (July 25) was supposed to be a celebration—the day we reopened our doors after a full refurbishment. We had planned for shiny new stands, fresh flooring, a freshly painted shop front, and exciting new products.
“How quickly things can change.
“Instead, today will likely be our final day open (though we may open briefly tomorrow, depending on how things go).
“It has been an absolute rollercoaster of a journey over the last 15 months in Worcester. Along the way, we’ve been lucky to meet and connect with so many wonderful people—including the amazing teams at Boston Tea Party, Standfords Hats, Crowngate team, the local market traders, Dave and Robbie from Worcester BID, and, of course, our wonderful customers.
“A huge, heartfelt thank you to everyone who has supported us along the way. This certainly isn’t how we envisioned our story ending, but despite our best efforts, things just haven’t worked out as planned.
“If there’s one thing we’d love to leave you with, it’s this: Worcester often gets a bad rap, but it truly is a lovely city filled with passionate independent businesses. Please, make an effort to support them. If you don’t, you will lose them—and several are already considering leaving. Take a look at neighboring towns like Evesham to see what can happen when independents disappear. Let’s change the narrative and shop local while they are still here.
