TV icon Mary Berry, 91, has opened up about a family tragedy.
The long-term chef has spoken on a podcast about the impact of losing her son in a 1989 car crash when he was just 19-years-old.
Dame Mary Berry was a judge on The Great British Bake Off during the BBC years between 2010 and 2016, before it left for Channel 4.

She has lived in Henley, in the south of Oxfordshire, with her husband Paul Hunnings, since 2019, having previously lived in London.
Dame Mary was also recently awarded the BAFTA Fellowship for her exceptional contribution to television.

“What an honour for a cook to receive the BAFTA Fellowship,” she said. “I couldn’t believe it – for just doing what I love.”
Now, the television legend has revealed how she coped in the aftermath of her son William’s death.
As reported by Woman & Home. she shared her thoughts on the Therapy Works podcast, including revealing that it was her daughter most impacted by the death.

“I felt so fortunate to have two other children,” she said, before adding, “I never, ever asked ‘why,’ because I think that’s wrong”.
Dame Mary continued, “I remember going to church the following Sunday [after William’s death] and there was a big plaque on the wall and it was the Busby family – they lost all three sons in the first World War.”
The 91-year-old wondered how that family coped and the chef decided to focus on raising her two remaining children as best she could.
