A one-night-only theatre performance directed by a Hollywood star is coming to Worcestershire.
Stockard Channing’s production of Krapp’s Last Tape will be performed at Theatrebarn on Saturday, October 3, and will star actor David Westhead.
Ms Channing, best known for her roles as Rizzo in Grease and Abigail ‘Abbey’ Bartlet in The West Wing, has directed the show following its successful runs at the Edinburgh and Latitude Festivals.
Award-winning actor David Westhead will star in the latest adaptation Samuel Beckett’s play as the title character.
She said: “David assured me we’d only play his pal’s arts centre for the charity, and now we’ve taken it to the Edinburgh and Latitude Festivals and now to a medieval tithe barn in Bretforton.
“I don’t think he will mind too much if I assert that David Westhead is truly Krapp.”
Theatrebarn, part of the Bretforton Grange Estate, is hosting the event in support of The Wembley to Soweto Foundation, with all proceeds going to the charity.

David Westhead said: “I saw the play in my youth and suddenly I’m the right age to play Krapp.
“We rehearsed in Stockard’s kitchen. I was Krapp, literally and metaphorically. Her first comment was, ‘Well, who the hell’s going to watch this?’
“Slowly things improved and we moved gingerly into the lounge. The play involves a couple of bananas. Benny the dog kept trying to eat them. So, we moved back into the kitchen.”

Krapp’s Last Tape tells the story of a 69-year-old man reflecting on his life through old tape recordings, blending Beckett’s trademark humour and heartbreak.
Dafydd Rogers, director of Bretforton Grange Estate, said: “David and I were reunited when he came to film Father Brown at Theatrebarn.
“I asked whether he would consider bringing Stockard Channing’s version of Krapp’s Last Tape to Bretforton – but I never thought they would say yes.”

The performance begins at 7pm, followed by a Q&A with Mr Westhead.
The show runs for 50 minutes, with a 20-minute interval and a 30-minute Q&A.
