What do we know: as hundreds of horse and traps spotted around Worcester

HUNDREDS of horse and traps have been spotted travelling around Worcester today – here’s everything we know.

The group first arrived on Weir Lane at around 9am this morning (April 25), and were later spotted outside the Oak Apple at around 2pm.

Talking with the Worcester News outside The Oak Apple, one of the organisers, Joe (who refused to provide his surname), said: “We are here for a charity event. We are raising money for funeral costs for a baby who recently died. We will be here until about 6pm.”

Residents have reported seeing the group travelling throughout Worcester, including in Weir Lane, London Road, Rainbow Hill, New Road, Cranham Drive, Blackpole, Carrington Bridge, and more.

Multiple witnesses say the group is being escorted by West Mercia Police.

Speaking at the Oak Apple, one police officer told the Worcester News that it was an organised event and police officers were only there to help with traffic management.

Commenting on a Worcester News Facebook post, Sar Hull said: “All gathered outside the chequers currently, just spoke to one of them and apparently it’s a family event, due to a family member passing and have arranged with four pubs around Worcester to stop outside and raise some money each time they stop.”

Yvette Wiggitt commented: “Was a lovely sight all going up Cranham Drive, those horses and traps. I’m sure they will stop at intervals to give their horses water.”

Sarah Mowbray added: “Just passed them, absolutely beautiful sight, they’re not doing any harm, enjoying the weather with pint horses, absolutely beautiful.”

Carol Roberts said: “I had the pleasure of seeing hundreds of these horses coming up the ring road over the New Bridge.

“It was an incredible sight. Quite took my breath away.

“The horses were immaculately turned out. Yes, it was hot, but they were followed by many horse lorries which would hopefully have buckets and water on board.

“Good to see so many parents and children out together having a special community day.”
