UK supermarket announces major change to popular meal deal

A MAJOR UK supermarket has put up the price of its meal deal by 50p.

Waitrose has become the latest retailer to increase its meal deal prices, raising them from £5 to £5.50 – a 10 per cent increase.

A spokesperson for Waitrose said: “Our meal deal remains exceptional value for money – offering a wide variety of lunch options prepared with the quality ingredients you would expect from Waitrose, and following the industry-leading welfare standards we insist on.”

It is the first time the supermarket has increased the price of its meal deal since introducing it in 2023.

How much is a meal deal at UK supermarkets?

Meal deals range in price at supermarkets across the UK.

The cheapest meal deal on offer is at Asda, which costs £3.74.

This is followed by Sainsbury’s (£3.95), Morrisons (£4), Co-op (£4.10) and Tesco (£4.25).

However, if shoppers are signed up to a loyalty card, such as a Tesco Clubcard or Morrisons More Card, the price drops to £3.75 at both Morrisons and Co-op, and to £3.85 at Tesco.
