Roads to close as thousands expected to attend Upton Blues Festival

THE road closures for Upton Blues Festival have been confirmed, as thousands of people are expected to descend on the town.

The event is getting underway this week, bringing a variety of blues artists to Upton upon Severn.

With campers arriving from Wednesday, July 15, the main event gets underway on Friday, July 17 and will continue until Sunday, July 19.

To allow for performances and the movement of large crowds, a number of road closures will be in place.

Will parking be restricted?

ARF Highway Services, which is managing this year’s closures, has said that on-street parking will be prohibited on B4211 Hanley Road and A4104 Tunnel Hill during the festival.

A car park for festivalgoers will be off the A4104 between Upton and Ryall.

The traffic management company has warned that road closures will be staffed by event security and any unauthorised access may lead to prosecution.

Diversion routes

Diversion routes will take motorists via Hanley Castle, Hanley Swan, Welland, Hook Bank and Tunnel Hill, and ARF has urged people to avoid using back roads.

“Large volumes of displaced traffic on to these back roads may well lead to severe congestion in the area and possible road traffic incidents too,” a spokesperson said.
