Here are the top five major acts to grace the Worcester stage:
The Beatles
Starting off strong, the iconic Liverpool band met the enthusiastic fans of Worcester on two occasions.
The Beatles played at the former Gaumont Theatre in 1963.
Firstly, in May 28, playing a seven-song setlist with favourites such as “Please Please Me” and “Twist and Shout” with support from Roy Orbison.
Then, returning in September 4 of that year for four consecutive shows at the same venue due to cancellations of Mersey Beat Showcase nights, earning them £250 for each one.
David Bowie
June 1973 saw another much-loved favourite, Bowie, visit The Gaumont Theatre.
He brought his extravagance to Worcester, performing as Ziggy Stardust to a sea of imitating fans, lining the pavements of Foregate Street before the doors opened.
His usual extra-terrestrial showmanship was brought along with him, and the show was an unforgettable one-night appearance in our city.
Ed Sheeran

The multi-award-winning singer-songwriter is a more recent famous face to have played in Worcester.
It was an intimate show at the iconic Marrs Bar in Worcester, ahead of his Glastonbury appearance in 2011.
Notably, he charged no fee for the gig, as a nod to the venue’s role in supporting under-the-radar musicians and his own career.
A no-doubt memorable night for anyone in attendance at this special gig.
Elton John

The Rocketman made an iconic entrance as he descended on Worcester in a helicopter for this show in 2006.
A flamboyant entrance to match the flamboyant performer he is.
The gig was held at the cricket ground, packed out with over 17,000 enthusiastic fans.
Some waited years to experience an Elton John performance—some loyal fans.
But a memorable night for all, a stunning show with the beautiful backdrop of Worcester Cathedral.
Becky Hill

Finally, Becky Hill paid a visit to The Marrs Bar in June 2026 as part of “Everywhere all at once,” hosted by the Music Venue Trust and the National Lottery.
It’s a festival that aimed to raise awareness of and support at-risk grassroots venues.
For The Marrs Bar, she said it was an important venue for her growing up, where she played as a teen in her early days as an artist.
Honouring her roots and reminding fans of where it all began, the show was a special one for all.
