Tailored employment support to help young people take next steps

A new service is offering tailored employment guidance to help young people take their next steps.

The programme, opened at Worcester Community Trust, supports those aged 16 and over in building confidence and finding pathways into work, training or education.

The service is aimed at anyone who is unemployed, not in education, employment or training (NEET), or simply in need of direction and support.

Helena Maggs, pathways mentor at Worcester Community Trust, said: “When you are 16 or over, the transition into work or training can feel like a lot to handle.

“Whether people have a clear goal or no idea where to start, I am here to help.

“My sessions are one-to-one, meaning I can really get to know people and go at a pace that’s right for them.

“I will meet with people to discuss what their interests are, and how these could be matched to real-world jobs or training opportunities.

“I will provide practical support with applications, CVs and training opportunities; as well as one-on-one coaching to really give people the confidence to take their next steps.

“I can also support people with maintaining their employment, or with exploring a new path if their current situation isn’t working out.”

Ms Maggs’ role complements the work of Worcester Community Trust’s welfare team, who recently relaunched their service.

The team now offers weekly Community Information and Support drop-ins at locations across the city.

These include Tolly Hub (Rowan Avenue, WR4 9QW) on Mondays, Horizon Hub (Midland Road, WR5 1DS) on Tuesdays, The Green Hub (Gresham Road, WR2 5QS) on Wednesdays and Ronkswood Hub (Canterbury Road, WR5 1PJ) on Fridays.

All drop-ins run from 10am to 4pm.

The welfare team supports residents with wellbeing, financial management—including help with energy bills— and benefit checks or applications.

They also assist with employability skills, such as overcoming barriers to work, improving CVs and preparing for interviews.

This support is designed to help individuals move closer to training or employment opportunities.
