School with ‘diversity at its heart’ receives new rating from Ofsted

A PRIMARY school “with diversity at its heart” and pupils with “smiles” on their faces each morning has received a new rating from Ofsted inspectors.

Stanley Road Primary School in Worcester has said it is proud that its Ofsted report “captures its values, culture and journey so accurately”.

Inspectors, who carried out the report under a new Ofsted framework, found the school was generally working at an expected standard, but some work was needed on improving pupils’ achievements.

In the report, inspectors said: “Stanley Road school is a diverse and warm community.

“School leaders have brought further stability and pastoral care to the school.

“Pupils have positive and trusting relationships with staff and say they feel safe and want to attend the school.

“Staff care about each and every pupil and know them individually.

“The many backgrounds that the families come from add to the community of the school and provide a wide range of experiences.

“Community events such as ‘culture week’ bring children and families together. There is a growing sense of pride and belonging.”

Headteacher Lorraine Adams said under previous frameworks, the school would have been reflected as a strong “Good” school.

“We understand that the words ‘expected standard ’ may give the impression that the school has taken a step backwards, as we are judged to be meeting expectations in seven of the eight areas,” she said.

“We would like to reassure parents that this is not a reflection of declining standards, but rather the impact of the new inspection framework, which sets a higher bar in key areas.

“While we will always strive to improve further, the inspection did identify one key area for continued focus: ensuring that more pupils reach age-related national expectations in reading, writing and mathematics.

“Inspectors recognised that this is something we know well and are already working hard to address, noting that leaders acknowledge this and are ambitious to improve this.

“We are confident that the actions already in place, alongside our high expectations and dedicated staff, will continue to strengthen outcomes for all pupils.”
