Pig-themed pints and quirky, playful competition are returning to Evesham.
The Red Lion pub in Market Square will once again host the Pass the Pigs World Championship on September 5, following a successful debut in 2025.
Tom Doggett, landlord of the Red Lion and Grand Pigmeister, said: “We had lots of local interest, with people even travelling up from Bristol — we’re hoping for some international competitors this year too.
“In some ways it’s just a bit of fun, but once we got down to the final pairing you could feel the tension in the air, and the pub exploded when the winning throw landed.”
Pass the Pigs is a game where players toss two small pig figurines and score points based on how they land.
Common results include the ‘Sider’ (one point) and ‘Trotter’ (five points), while the rare ‘Double Leaning Jowler’ scores 60.
Last year’s champion, Finn Dickinson, will be in attendance.
Uley Brewery’s head of operations, Emily Brooks, who narrowly missed out on winning in 2025 despite never having played before, will also be in attendance.

Ms Brooks said: “Last year was so much fun; we immediately agreed it needed to be an annual event.
“It’s a lot tougher than people might think to run a brewery or a pub, so it’s really important to enjoy it as well, and Uley Brewery’s pig theme, which runs through our beer names, makes it an ideal partnership.”
Uley Brewery’s beers feature a porcine theme, with names like Squeal of Fortune, Hog’s Wallop, Pigs Ear, Old Spot, and Pigor Mortis.
Seven of these will be on tap at the Red Lion throughout the championship weekend.
Belinda Holley, trade manager at Uley Brewery, said: “We came up in a couple of cars last year, but we’ve already booked a bus because of how excited everyone at the brewery is, and many of our beer club too.
“I think it’s going to become an annual pilgrimage from Uley.”
The 2026 Pass the Pigs World Championship trophy will be crafted by Worcester-based Chipmumf, who recycle scrap wood and other items into unique gifts and prizes.
Entries are open at www.redlionevesham.co.uk or in person at the Red Lion, Market Place, Evesham.
