A GROUP for nurses is celebrating 75 years with a big get-together at Worcestershire County Cricket Club later this month.
Worcester Royal Infirmary Nurses League (WRINL) was formed in 1951 to keep those who have trained or worked at Worcester Royal Infirmary — or subsequent hospitals in Worcestershire — in touch with the hospital and colleagues.
Members will be holding their annual general meeting and annual reunion on Saturday, May 16 at the New Road venue.

Committee member Agnes Young said: “We are trying to reach as many of our nurses who either trained in Worcestershire or worked at any of the hospitals and in the community to invite them to attend.
“The WRINL is for all nurses, those with formal training and those who deliver care without training.
“It has an interesting history and is one of the few nurses’ leagues still active nationally.
“The league was formed in the old Worcester Infirmary in the same boardroom where the British Medical Association was founded in 1832 by Sir Charles Hastings and the chapel which was built by money raised by the ‘Swedish Nightingale’ Jenny Lind.

“Although the buildings are now owned by the University of Worcester, we are allowed to use the boardroom for meetings and have an annual Christmas concert in the chapel.
“There is also an excellent museum on site which has wonderful displays of managing health and caring for the sick over the centuries. “We have an interesting agenda for the day (May 16) with a speaker from Meningitis Now, which is very timely, plus other members recalling events and experiences taken from our magazines.
“But really it’s an excuse to meet with old friends and colleagues.”
The day will start at 11am and finish at 4.30pm with refreshments on arrival, a hot lunch served and a bar available.
Meningitis Now director Sue Rogers will be speaking about support, research, the history of bacterial disease and the difference a vaccine has made.
Funds from the raffle, which is cash-only, will go to a charity to be confirmed on the day.
There will be free on-site parking and the cost of attending the event is £25 to members.
