Latest update on pub which has been closed for almost a year

‘NO decision’ has been reached about the future of a pub which has been closed for almost a year.

The Swan Inn on Barbourne Road was sold more than nine months ago, after pub company Admiral Taverns decided it had no “sustainable” future under its ownership.

It was taken on by Worcester-based company Aziz Capital Ltd, which is part of a group that runs various housing schemes across Worcestershire.

Shortly after buying the pub, the company said it was deciding on the most appropriate use for the site.

Flats plan

Several months later, the firm submitted an application to Worcester City Council to demolish The Swan Inn and build 25 serviced apartments in its place.

The application received a number of objections from residents, who raised concerns about the size of the development, the size of the flats, as well as increased demand for parking spaces in Barbourne.

According to the council’s planning portal, the application has now been closed or withdrawn.
