Driver with ‘heavy right foot’ caught driving at twice the speed limit in Droitwich

A MARTIAL ARTS teacher has avoided a driving ban after he was caught at more than twice the speed limit.

Carl Trevitt, 46, appeared at Worcester Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday (August 14) charged with breaking the speed limit on the A442 Kidderminster Road, Droitwich.

The court heard that he had been snapped by a manual speed camera reaching 81mph on a 40mph stretch of the road.

Trevitt’s defence barrister, Mr Parsons, said: “He accepts that he was driving at excessive speed.

“He accepts that he put his foot down too hard. This is certainly out of character.”

The court heard that Trevitt, who is a self-employed martial arts instructor, was on his way to a grading at Berry Hill Industrial Estate where his students would have the opportunity to receive their next belt.

The defence argued in mitigation that the road on that there was little to no traffic and the weather the dry.

Mr Parsons said: “He remembers that date so he knows what the conditions were.

“He comes before you with a clean licence, he just cannot explain why he did what he did that day.”

The court heard that Trevitt, of Sion Avenue, Kidderminster, needed his car to reach his any lessons he teaches in places such as Bromsgrove and Droitwich.

If the court were to disqualify the 46-year-old, Mr Parsons asked for the magistrates to keep his ban as short as possible.

Sentencing, head magistrate Christopher Devney said: “You are a gentleman of previous good character. What you are struggling with is a heavy right foot.”

Trevitt was handed a £576 fine and six points on his licence.
