Celebrated choir to spotlight local female composers

The Jenny Lind Singers are set to spotlight local female composers at the Elgar Festival.

The celebrated Malvern choir will perform on Sunday, May 24, at 3pm at All Saints Church, Deansway, Worcester.

Named after the renowned Swedish soprano Jenny Lind, a close friend of Edward Elgar who spent the latter part of her life in Malvern, the choir continues her legacy of supporting music, education, and the arts in the local community.

Under the baton of conductor Lynne Lindner, they will present a programme highlighting the contributions of women composers across generations, featuring both historic and contemporary music.

Known for their expressive performances and exceptional musicianship, the Jenny Lind Singers have become a much-loved feature of the festival programme.

This special concert promises an uplifting and memorable afternoon of choral music performed by some of the region’s finest female singers, with harp and piano accompaniment.

Audiences can expect a programme full of beauty, passion and discovery, honouring both the pioneering women of the past and the talented composers shaping music today.

The programme will include “An English Day Book” by Elizabeth Poston, “Nimrod Re-imagined” by Liz Dilnot Johnson, currently composer-in-residence with Ex Cathedra and at The Fold, “Fire” by Amy Bebbington, and “Swallows” by Kate Hill, an award-winning composer living and working in the Malvern Hills.

There will also be pieces by Elgar and other modern and light songs.

The Elgar Festival runs from May 23 to 31. More information is available on the website.
