A CITY pub has been given a new lease of life claims a new landlord with a passion for stopping empty pubs from becoming HMOs and housing developments.
It’s been two weeks since Peter Lewis re-opened the Brewers Arms in St John’s, and so far more than 600 people have visited the well-known community pub.
Since opening the pub on Comer Road, live bands, disco, karaoke, TVs, and a pool table have all been introduced.
Tills are set to be installed today (May 8), with CCTV being installed tomorrow (April 9), and scaffolding to go up in the beer garden to aid with painting a wall.
The landlord is in talks with several organisations to paint a mural on the wall as a community project, including Worcester University.
The Brewers Arms closed in January and reopened on April 24.

Mr Lewis said: “There are lots of pubs out there that are empty and are at risk of being sold and turned into flats, HMO’s and things like that. We do not want that to happen. We wanted to bring something back.
“The last two weeks have been really, really busy. We’ve probably had over 600 people through the door.
“Sales have gone up. The tills go in today (May 8), the scaffolding is going up, so I can repaint the back bit a dark base grey before someone puts in a design.
“I still hope it will be Worcester University students, but I have not heard back from the university, and I’m in talks with several people. But it will be a community project.
“I’ve brought a bit of energy, added a new surround sound, some TVs and a pool table.
“Everyone has been very supportive. We’ve had live bands, disco, karaoke, and more. In the future, on the left-hand side where the wooden gazebo is, we are going to extend the roof and the seating area.”
