New boutique hotel and restaurant with Michelin star experience opens

A luxury new boutique hotel has added a fine dining experience for customers.

House of George is set in the picturesque Cotswolds village of Broadway in a restored 17th-century limestone building that once served as a doctor’s surgery.

Dating back to 1201, the building now houses a 10-bedroom retreat blending historic charm with contemporary design, the brainchild of retail entrepreneur George Davies, the creator of Next, George at ASDA, and Per Una at Marks & Spencer, and his wife Arlene.

Arlene Davies said: “House of George isn’t just about luxury.

“It’s about connection – to our guests, our neighbours, and this extraordinary village we’re so proud to call home.

“Every texture, tone, and flavour has been chosen to celebrate this beautiful part of the Cotswolds.”

The Davieses spent more than a decade admiring the building before taking on its transformation, guided by Arlene’s design vision in collaboration with Laura Cole of The Cole Collective.

House of George features bespoke furnishings and artwork from British makers, including hand-printed fabrics from Rapture & Wright, joinery by Cotswood Fine Furniture, and pieces from The Stratford Gallery.

The property’s headline dining experience is Moda, a 30-cover restaurant led by chef James Wilson, formerly of The Newt in Somerset, known for its three Michelin Keys.

Mr Wilson said: “I am excited and incredibly proud to be opening The House of George W. Davies and Moda restaurant in the beautiful Cotswolds.

“I’m looking forward to bringing my cooking style to Broadway and to be working with the amazing local producers and makers we have here.”

Moda’s seasonal nine-course tasting menu changes regularly and is guided by the best available produce.

An exceptional vegan nine-course tasting menu is also available, along with an à la carte and set lunch menu available from Monday to Friday, priced at £40 for two courses or £45 for three.

George Davies said: “It has been both a privilege and a joy to breathe new life into this remarkable building and create something truly special for Broadway.”
