Sports pavilion could be demolished for timber-framed replacement

A VILLAGE sports pavilion could be demolished to make way for a timber-framed replacement.

Plans to replace the run-down pavilion at Hallow Recreation Ground have been submitted to Malvern Hills District Council.

Hallow Parish Council is behind the scheme, which it says does not include any wider development of the playing fields.

“The site is an established recreation ground containing a pavilion and associated sports facilities, with tennis courts and residential properties nearby,” the parish council said in a planning statement.

“The new building will continue to support the playing field and local community. There is no proposed change of use.”

Proposals for the new pavilion include changing and shower facilities, toilets, a “social and meeting space” and storage rooms.

“The building is single-storey, timber framed, with a pitched roof, shiplap external cladding and a fibre-cement slate roof finish,” the plans state.

“Existing pedestrian and vehicular access arrangements serving the playing field will be retained.

“No new highway access or diversion of the existing adjoining path is proposed.

“The replacement provides sanitary and communal accommodation for users of the sports and community facility.”

The parish council said some repair work has been done on the existing pavilion but it still very much needs replacing.

“Approximately 18 months ago limited roof refelting and patch repairs were undertaken to improve weatherproofing – these were maintenance repairs rather than a comprehensive rebuild,” it said.

“The building has continued to age and deteriorate.”

Hallow Parish Council said there were no plans to remove any trees or hedgerows around the pavilion, or to encroach into any nearby wildlife habitats.
