Major supermarket chain shares update on new Worcestershire store

CONSTRUCTION is officially underway on a new Lidl supermarket in Kidderminster

The store, located on Franche Road in Kidderminster, is set to open next summer and promises to boost local shopping options while creating up to 40 new jobs.

The development represents a multi-million-pound investment in Kidderminster and aims to improve retail convenience for residents who currently travel to Stourport-on-Severn for their weekly shop.

Robin Canning, regional head of property at Lidl GB, said: “Thank you to everyone for their continued support and patience while we have worked to deliver this state-of-the-art store for the community.

“We’re absolutely thrilled to be entering this next stage of development on Franche Road.

“We have worked collaboratively with the local community and councils to ensure this store not only brings fantastic value and choice to Kidderminster but also delivers good jobs for people here.”

Entry-level pay for roles at the new supermarket will start at £13.45 per hour, reflecting Lidl’s position as one of the highest-paying employers in the retail sector.

The supermarket will also feature a 1,529 square metre sales area, an in-store bakery, and the popular ‘Middle of Lidl’ aisle.

There will be 130 parking spaces, including eight disabled bays, nine parent and child spaces, and two rapid electric vehicle charging spaces.

Six covered Sheffield cycle stands are proposed, providing 12 spaces for cyclists.

The building will be partially powered by rooftop solar panels, which are expected to generate up to 25 per cent of the store’s electricity needs.

Lidl has worked closely with Wyre Forest District Council to ensure the design is sensitive to the surrounding area.

As part of its commitment to the community, Lidl is inviting nearby primary schools to join its ‘Lidl Foodies’ programme.

The scheme offers free educational resources to help children learn about healthy eating and is already in use at 25 per cent of primary schools in Great Britain.

Teachers interested in joining the programme are encouraged to sign up through the National Schools Partnership website.
