Swan rescued from busy ring road after ‘mid-air collision’ with lamppost

A swan was rescued after a crash landing in a mid-air collision with a lamppost and ending up on a busy ring road.

The incident happened on the ringway near Weavers Wharf in Kidderminster on Friday (October 23), when the bird was seen attempting to cross the road with the help of passers-by.

It was suggested the swan had a crash landing after a mid-air collision with a lamppost before landing on the carriageway.

Bromsgrove officer PC Britton, who was in the area at the time, quickly found the swan sheltering in a nearby puddle.

A member of the public stayed with the bird until help arrived.

With the assistance of a call to a local vet, some members of the public, and a now very soggy coat from PC Britton, the swan was safely placed in the back of a police car and transported to the vet.

After an examination and some pain relief, it was confirmed that the swan had not suffered any broken bones.

A spokesman for West Mercia Police said: “The swan settled in for a night of rest and relaxation while PC Britton returned to his normal duties.”
