Jobs uncertain at packaging firm as production ceases at UK site

JOBS are uncertain at a packaging firm after it confirmed that production would cease at its Malvern site.

VG Pendagron Ltd, based on The Haysfield in Malvern, is phasing out its rigid box production by the end of this year.

The site will continue to be a regional base for sales and design services.

A consultation process has now been launched, with the number of jobs affected yet to be confirmed.

Parent company Van Genechten Packaging group, which is headquartered in Belgium, said the move was part of a review into its “manufacturing and innovation capabilities”.

It added that existing customers would continue to be served through the group’s wider manufacturing network.

“The Malvern site will remain open, continuing as a regional base for Sales and Design Services, connected to VGP’s wider Packaging Design Network,” a Van Genechten Packaging spokesperson said.

“Rigid box production at the site is planned to be phased out by the end of 2026.

“This follows a comprehensive review of how best to organise our manufacturing and innovation capabilities across the UK and Europe.

“The aim is to make the best use of our established network while continuing to support customers with packaging expertise, creativity and reliable service.

“Customers currently served by VG Pendragon will continue to be supported through VGP’s wider manufacturing network. Individual transition plans are being developed, with continuity of supply and service as the key priority.

“We recognise the impact of the planned production phase-out on colleagues working in rigid box manufacturing at Malvern.

“We are committed to a fair and meaningful consultation process and to managing the transition with care, transparency and respect.

“Our immediate priorities are supporting colleagues, ensuring continuity for customers and preparing the site for its continuing role in Sales and Design Services.”
