100-year-old stationery shop among businesses to close in October – here’s the list

FOR a number of businesses across Worcestershire, October marks not just the Halloween season but also the end of an era.

Several businesses are preparing to close their doors in the coming weeks, giving customers one final chance to visit before they shut for good.

From independent eateries and popular attractions to long-established high street names, several venues have announced closure plans.

We have compiled a list of all the Worcestershire businesses closing this October.

GoodRoots, Worcester

GoodRoots at The Porcelain Works in Worcester will close on October 31 after six years at the site.

The business will be closing after its landlords chose not to renew its lease.

Owner Dickie Wheatley said: “GoodRoots has been such a huge part of my life for the past six years, so I’m absolutely heartbroken that we’re having to close.

“Owning my own business was always my dream, and GoodRoots has also provided a livelihood for me and my three young girls.

“I’m incredibly proud of what our team has achieved and truly grateful for all the love and support Worcester has shown us.”

Top Barn Farm Shop and Farm Park in Holt Heath is also due to close on October 31 after 25 years.

Owners Mike and Joanna Harper said the decision followed careful consideration of the business’s future and the investment required in the building.

Mr Harper said: “This has been an incredibly difficult decision for us to make.

“Top Barn has been such a huge part of our lives, and we know that it has also become an important place for many families and members of our local community.

“We have made so many wonderful memories over the years, from seeing generations of families visit us, to watching children grow up coming to the farm.”

TG Jones, the retailer which replaced WHSmith stores across the country, is set to close in Droitwich on October 31 after 100 years at the site.

The move follows the recent transformation of the WHSmith brand on UK high streets, with customers having only a short time left before the affected store shuts.

A spokesperson for TG Jones said: “As we work to secure the long-term future of TG Jones, we have confirmed that our Droitwich shop will close.

“We know this will be disappointing news for our colleagues, customers, and the local community.

“Our focus now is on supporting those affected and continuing to serve customers throughout the closure period.”
