A SERIAL stalker and a pair of baseball bat-wielding attackers were among those jailed in September at Worcester Crown Court.
A court case is often passed from the magistrates’ court to the crown court if the magistrates decide that the offence is too serious and requires a greater sentence than the six-month maximum they can hand out.
Here are some of the people put behind bars that the Worcester News has reported on:
Russell Jay

43-year-old Russell Jay subjected several women in the village of Kempsey to a campaign of harassment and stalking, which saw him enter one woman’s home and forcefully kiss her, and set another woman’s car on fire after she reported his actions to the police.
Jay, of The Limes, Kempsey, started his offending by messaging the women on Facebook before escalating his offences to buying them sexual clothing or appearing outside their homes.
After he was arrested for setting one of the women’s cars on fire, he tried to convince another woman to get them to drop their charges.
He was sentenced to six years in prison for four counts of harassment, two counts of possession of a bladed article, one count of stalking, one count of intimidating a witness, and one count of arson.

They had denied causing grievous bodily harm with intent but later admitted to the lesser offence of grievous bodily harm without intent.

He was also handed a restraining order which prevents him from contacting the woman or attending her home for the next 10 years.
