Village pub says ‘difficult goodbye’ as it announces closure

A VILLAGE pub in Worcestershire has announced its closure with a “difficult goodbye”.

The Defford Arms in Defford confirmed that it had already been closed for more than a week, having traded for the last time on September 24.

The team at the pub said it had taken some time to make the announcement as they needed to “process” the decision to close.

They said the pub was “no longer financially viable” and that it wasn’t possible to keep it open.

Pub statement

“A difficult goodbye. After a lot of thought and some incredibly difficult decisions, we’ve made the decision to close the pub,” a spokesperson for The Defford Arms said in a statement on the pub’s Facebook page.

“Our final day was Thursday, September 24, and we’re sorry it’s taken us a little while to make this post. There has been a lot going on behind the scenes, and we’ve needed a little time to process everything ourselves.

“Sadly, due to the lack of trade, the pub is no longer financially viable, and continuing simply isn’t possible.”

‘We’re incredibly proud’

They went on to thank customers, saying they would be missed and sharing fond memories.

“We want to say a huge thank you to every single person who has supported us,” the spokesperson said.

“To our regulars, our occasional visitors, those who came for a meal, a drink, an event, or simply a chat, we genuinely appreciate every one of you.

“The people we’ve met, the friendships we’ve made and the memories we’ve created are something we will always be grateful for.

“To our regulars especially, you became so much more than customers, and we will truly miss seeing you.

“Running a pub is certainly not easy, but we’re incredibly proud of what we created and will always look back on our time here with fond memories.

“Thank you for everything, for all your support, and for making the pub what it was. We’ll miss you all.”
