A BOOKSHOP owner has said she is “very grateful” after a mystery person nominated her business for an award.
The Violet Bookshop, on Old Street in Upton upon Severn, could be named Bookshop of the Year in the West Midlands at My Local Awards 2026.
Sian Fuller, who has run the shop for just over two years, said she has no idea who made the nomination.
“It’s fabulous,” she said. “I didn’t have any idea that I had been nominated. I don’t know who has nominated the shop but I’m very grateful.
“There’s an awful lot of these awards but this one is voted for by the public.
“I have had a few more people follow me on social media since. It’s really nice for me. It made my day.”

Voting on the award has now opened to the public and will close on Tuesday, October 6. Winners will be informed and announced once voting concludes.
Other Worcestershire bookshops that have received nominations include Blandford Books, The Lyttleton Well Bookshop, Red Books, Henrys Café Book Shop and Antiques, The Map Shop, Chapter One The Perfect Blend, Deborah Coltham Rare Books, Mike Conry, and Script Haven.
After more than two years of running the shop, Mrs Fuller has praised Upton for its dedication to supporting local businesses.
Despite the challenges of retail, the shop owner said she has noticed a year-on-year improvement in the shop.
“Upton is a good place for shopping locally,” she said. “It’s one of the reasons I felt confident opening a shop here.
“People are really keen to support local businesses. Retail is really hard but I think I’m really lucky.
“Most local shops in Upton are run by one person but I don’t ever feel like I’m running it on my own as there’s such a community among the traders.”
