A new Indian restaurant has opened with a perfect food hygiene rating already under its belt – and the business has already appointed a new chef to join the team.
Teaon Bar and Restaurant on Broad Street in Worcester has been awarded a five-star food hygiene rating, a promising start for the venue, which serves Indian cuisine.
The ‘five’ rating (very good) is the maximum rating the Food Standards Agency can award.
Meanwhile, a new, experienced chef has also joined the team, bringing a range of Punjabi dishes to the menu.
Chef Jerin Raju, the 29-year-old behind the restaurant, said: “Receiving a 5-star rating fills me with pride and gratitude. Knowing that my food brings happiness to our guests is the greatest reward and motivation to keep creating with passion.”

Chef Jerin, who aims to bring authentic and fusion dishes from Kerala to Worcester, describes the restaurant as a product of “tradition, passion, and dreams.”
The menu is designed to offer value for money, including special offers for students.
Teaon has also welcomed chef Kamal Brar to the team, who brings 14 years of professional culinary experience.

Chef Jerin said: “From the heart of Punjab, India, Chef Kamal Brar brings 14 years of professional culinary experience and a deep passion for keeping India’s rich food traditions alive.
“From mastering the intense heat of the traditional clay tandoor to creating perfectly balanced Punjabi spice blends, Chef Kamal has spent over a decade refining his craft in professional kitchens.”
The new chef draws inspiration from the villages and kitchens of Punjab, blending traditional flavours with a modern dining experience, said chef Jerin.
A spokesperson said: “Teaon’s roots trace back over 30 years to a humble home in Kerala, where a remarkable woman began a small snack business from her kitchen. A housewife with an extraordinary vision, she wore every hat—chef, manager, marketer, and entrepreneur—all on her own. With no formal training but an abundance of passion, she created flavours that people cherished and built a business that stood as a testament to her dedication.
“Her journey wasn’t easy, but her determination transformed a simple home venture into something truly special. Every dish she made carried her spirit—bold, authentic, and full of heart.”
The Broad Street premises were previously home to Tipsy Toast and Waffle and More.
