Village cricket club to host first-ever senior county fixture

A homebuilder is helping a village cricket club make history by supporting its first-ever senior county fixture.

Lioncourt Homes, based in Worcester, is sponsoring the match ball and a wicket end for the upcoming game at Martley Cricket Club, which will host Worcestershire Women’s Rapids as they take on Gloucestershire in the Metro Bank One Day Cup on Sunday, September 6.

Colin Cole, chief executive of Lioncourt Homes, said: “As a homebuilder with deep roots in Worcestershire, and with Martley Fields taking shape on the edge of the village, it’s our pleasure to support Martley Cricket Club as it stages its first senior county fixture.

“We understand just how much time, effort, and resource the club pumps into supporting routes into cricket for women and girls, so it’s great to see that reflected by this fixture being played at Martley.”

The event is a major milestone for the club and the wider village and the sponsorship builds on Lioncourt’s ongoing support for Martley Cricket Club – including its recent backing of the pavilion bar, the Tap and Run, in July 2024.

The fixture also shines a spotlight on the club’s commitment to women’s cricket.

Martley fields two senior women’s teams – one of which is the current county champion – as well as a growing junior girls’ section.

Alexandra Repton, women’s captain and club secretary at Martley Cricket Club, said: “We’re grateful to Lioncourt Homes and all of our other sponsors for supporting this historic event for our village club.

“We’re only a small entity, so to be entrusted to host the Rapids’ final fixture of the One Day Cup season is a huge honour, and our commitment to girls’ and women’s cricket is clear.

“We hope this is the first of many opportunities as we continue to grow, thanks to sponsors like Lioncourt Homes.”
