Garden centre ‘holds hands up’ over event pricing complaints and makes changes

A CITY garden centre has made changes to its event after customers said was charging too much.

The award-winning St Peter’s Garden Centre has decided to halve the price of one of its summer holiday events after receiving feedback that it was too expensive.

The centre on Broomhall shared that feedback on its Bounce & BBQ days at Poppy’s Farm showed a consensus that it was charging too much.

A spokesperson for St Peter’s Garden Centre said: “We have been a part of running and managing many different events over the last four years, but like any new event you perform market research, see what other people do and charge and what seems to be the best rate.

“We realised quite quickly this wasn’t working for us, or our customers.

“We still had good sales, but it didn’t feel quite right for us.

“We always try to price our events as best as we can, as we’re living in difficult times and booking experiences can become very expensive for families.”

The event, which takes place on Fridays and Saturdays, offers customers unlimited access to bouncy castles and face painting for a fee.

Those at the event can also have food from a BBQ.

The centre was initially charging nearly £10 entry for children and £14 for adults.

The news has led many visitors to praise the garden centre for apologising for the event’s price and amending it to better suit customers.

One said: “To see a business respond like this is heartwarming.

“Everything everywhere these days is being monetised, and capitalism really leaves a very bad taste in most of us.

“If you really want repeat happy customers, your fee needs to be reasonable and proportionate.”

Another added: “Well done for listening.

“Times are hard, especially for families.

“This sounds like better value for money, and you may find that at this price you still get as much as people may, then visit twice.”
