Major gas network upgrade reaches next phase

A major gas pipe upgrade in Pershore is progressing well.

Wales & West Utilities began the project in April, which is part of a wider project to invest over £5 million over the next few years to upgrade gas pipes across the area.

The programme will see nearly 17 kilometres of mains replaced to benefit around 1,700 customers.

As the next phase begins, Main Street in Pinvin will be closed to traffic from July 20 to August 28, with a signed diversion in place and resident access maintained.

Ryan Barkway, who is managing the project for Wales & West Utilities, said: “We have planned this work during the school holidays to minimise local disruption and our team is committed to working as quickly, and safely, as possible to complete the project in a timely fashion.

“We understand our work can cause disruption, but it is essential to maintain a resilient gas network that households and business can rely on every day.

“Once we’ve completed this intensive phase of work, we’ll leave behind an upgraded network that meets today’s energy needs, and is ready to transport greener gases in the future.

“By completing this work now, barring any emergency repairs, we can avoid returning to the area and causing further disruption to the local community for decades.”

Wales & West Utilities transports energy to more than 7.5 million people across Wales and the south west of England, operating a more than 35,000km underground pipeline network.

The company does not sell gas but delivers it safely to homes and businesses.
