A FIRE started in a bin lorry after someone put the “wrong thing” in their recycling bin.
Wychavon binmen were on their recycling round when smoke started billowing from the back of the lorry.
Rubbish was tipped out onto the road, showing where it had burst into flames.
‘It could have been much worse’
Firefighters were called to the scene to battle to flames, which Wychavon District Council said were put out quickly.
“The fire was quickly put out but it could have been much worse,” a council spokesperson said.
“A small amount of heat can put our crews, firefighters and the public at risk.”
It’s believed that the fire was caused by ashes, embers or disposable BBQs.

How to safely dispose of BBQs
The council has issued a warning against putting these items in recycling bins and has issued important advice on how to dispose of them instead:
“Even when they look out, ashes and BBQs can stay hot for hours and may reignite, causing fires in bins, recycling trucks and waste sites,” a council spokesperson said.
