Town to look like the wild west for annual carnival this weekend

PERSHORE is set to look like a scene straight from the wild west, with floats of all shapes and sizes to parade through the town this weekend.

Pershore Carnival, which has been taking place annually for nearly 60 years, is set to parade through the town on Saturday (June 20) once more.

Traditionally held at the end of May, the Pershore Carnival committee members chose to delay the family favourite event following community feedback.

A sticking point of last year, when the floats were on lorries has been sorted and the lorries will be returning.

This this year’s theme is ‘Country and Western’, chosen with help from the town’s youth.

Speaking previously, Christine Searl, chair of the Pershore Carnival Committee, said: ” I’m very excited about the procession. The community have really got on board. We’ve got quite a few entrances this year

“Obviously, we don’t know what the floats will look like, but we know that they are going to be decorated and the lorries are back this year.

“We recognised that we really needed to get the lorries back out there for that impact.

“We know that they impress people when the lorries are decorated.”

The Pershore Carnival Committee hopes that moving the event to a Saturday in June will help boost trade for businesses in Pershore, increase visitor numbers, and allow for better weather.

The 11am procession will start an hour earlier than usual this year to allow visitors more time to explore the other activities happening around the town.

The Pershore Carnival is not just about the procession; however, a number of other events will be taking place on Abbey Park throughout the day, including a dog show, a Punch and Judy show, and more.
