Police officer dismissed because he didn’t declare he was overpaid

A POLICE officer has been dismissed because he didn’t declare that he had been overpaid.

The panel of a West Mercia Police misconduct hearing found that Sergeant Pete Nightingale had inadvertently submitted inaccurate overtime claims and did not declare the overpayment when he received his payslip.

“The panel also accepted that by acting dishonestly, PS Nightingale did not act with integrity,” a report of the hearing said.

It was decided that he should be dismissed without notice and barred from policing.

A second allegation that PS Nightingale had dishonestly submitted claims for on-call honorariums for on-call sessions he didn’t perform was not upheld by the panel.
