A bedding company that supplies major high street retailers, including Argos and Very, is at risk of closing after more than 150 years, having fallen into administration.
Airsprung is a manufacturer of beds, mattresses, and upholstery.
It has grown to be “one of the largest bed manufacturers in the UK” since opening in 1870, 156 years ago.
Its products – which include Airsprung, Gainsborough, Airofreem brands, and Arena Design – are sold directly to customers at its Trowbridge shop, online, or through other retailers, including Argos and Very.

The Airsprung website adds: “Most of the biggest names on the high street and in the digital space carry Airsprung Group products.
“From the highest profile independents to the largest multiple retailers.”
Airsprung enters administration after more than 150 years
Airsprung has experienced difficult trading conditions and increasing cash flow challenges recently, according to PwC.
The Trowbridge-based company has now entered administration, and is at risk of closing, with Edward Williams and Ross Connock from PwC appointed joint administrators on May 1.
CEO and Director of Airsprung, Tean Dallaway, added: “I would like to sincerely thank our customers and suppliers for their support over many years, and most importantly our employees for their dedication, professionalism, and hard work.
“Their commitment has been central to the business, and it is very sad and disappointing that the business has entered administration.”
As a result of Airsprung falling into administration, 71 of the company’s 202 employees have been made redundant.
The remaining staff will be retained to assist with the ongoing operations of the business whilst administrators search for interest in the company.
Joint administrator and partner at PwC, Edward Williams, said: “It’s very sad that this well-known business with 150 years of history and iconic brands within the mattress and bed industry has had to go into administration, resulting in 71 job losses at this time.
“We know that this is an unsettling time for everyone impacted and we will support employees through the redundancy process.
“The administrators will be engaging with customers and exploring any interest in the business and its assets on an accelerated basis over the coming weeks and would encourage any parties to contact ourselves.”
